RiverRun Weekend

RiverRun Film International Festival

The RiverRun film festival came to Winston-Salem, NC for it’s 10th year this year with over 90 films in 6 days of screenings. We worked the film festival at a venue for 4 days of the festival to help with ticket collecting and ushering, and in the process got to see some great films that we would not have been able to see if not for this festival. Another highlight was we met Bill Pullman, who had a starred in Phoebe in Wonderland the opening night film. We were volunteering and he had a session of question and answers with the audience about his work in the theatre we were taking tickets for.

Some of the films we really liked were:

Intimidad - a warm documentary about a newly married couple and their young daughter in Mexico and their story their struggle to own their own home and living together as a family.

Son of Rambo - a Paramount movie, “The Biggest British Comedy of the Year” coming to theatres May 2nd was great. It was a fun story of a young boy and his adventures with his friend making a movie staring his self-created character, Son of Rambow. Set in England in the 80s has a great soundtrack and a lot of funny parts.

The Baker - “A hit man has second thoughts about his career and seeks refuge from his boss by finding work as a baker in a rural Welsh village.” (imdb.com) It was an audience favorite, sold out for two showings.

OSS 117: Cairo Nest of Spies- A French spy comedy which was kind of like a french Get Smart

I’m interested in The Baker; what was the audience response - did you get a chance to meet the director Gareth Lewis?
